Today in Canada’s Political History: Pauline McGibbon Makes History!

On this date in 1974 Ontario’s Pauline McGibbon broke the vice-regal glass ceiling by becoming the first-ever provincial representative of the Queen in any Canadian province.McGibbon served in Ontario’s highest non-political office until 1980. A life-long volunteer, particularly in the Arts, the first time she ever received a salary came when she served as Lt.-Governor of Ontario.[caption id="attachment_601164" align="alignleft" width="476"] Pauline McGibbon[/caption]Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist.  He was research assistant on The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy.  A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
