Today in Canada’s Political History: Justin Trudeau’s Maiden Speech in the Commons

As readers of “Art’s History” are aware, there are no more important dates on the Canadian political history calendar than the birthdays of our Prime Ministers.  Next to those anniversaries, of course, is the significance (especially to the for historically minded) of the maiden Parliamentary addresses of the Prime Ministers of Canada.  So, a happy anniversary to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as it was on this date in 2009 that he delivered his first-ever remarks in the House.You can watch the future Prime Minister’s remarks at this link.[caption id="attachment_608609" align="alignleft" width="808"] Prime Minister Justin Trudeau speaks in regards to his party’s throne speech in the House of Commons in Ottawa, on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy.  A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
