Today in Canada's Political History - April 12, 2011: 2011 English leaders’ debate held

The 2011 federal election was well underway on this date that year and the party leaders gathered in a studio as the campaign’s English-language television debate was held. The event was moderated by TVO’s Steve Paikin and you can watch Prime Minister Stephen J. Harper, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, the NDP’s Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe from the Bloc Québécois in action that evening at this link.

Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist. He was research assistant on The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy. A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
