Today in Canada's Political History - April 16, 2014: Jim Flaherty’s state funeral held in Toronto

One of the most popular MPs and cabinet ministers of his generation, Jim Flaherty, was celebrated at a State Funeral in Toronto held on this date in 2014. He had passed into history a few days before in Ottawa, and the capital city was immediately plunged into mourning. Partisans from all sides came together in a rare expression of solidarity to honour Mr. Flaherty.

The late minister was eulogized by his friend, Prime Minister Stephen J. Harper. You can watch Harper deliver his eulogy at this link.
