Syrian refugee influx can be moment of national pride as Liberals act on security concerns

The Liberal government's original Syrian refugee plan envisaged bringing in 25,000 migrants by the end of the year, with an “expedited” screening process overseas augmented by more rigorous checks once they had landed in Canada. That plan, dated Nov. 20, said that once the refugees had been given temporary resident status, CSIS would conduct permanent residency security screening of applicants, and the Canada Border Services Agency would take action against anyone deemed inadmissible.
