Famed MP and cabinet minister Sheila Copps made history on this date in 1987. The birth of her daughter Danelle Lauren marked the first time a Member of Parliament had given birth to a child while serving in the Commons. Today, such an event would hardly be news, but 30 years-ago this was an important advance for Canadian women in politics at all levels of government.
So let’s all wish Danelle a happy birthday and celebrate this milestone in our politics.
