Today in Canada’s Political History: Tragic Death of Michel Trudeau

The Trudeau family, joined by all Canadians, was in shock on this date in 1998 with the news of the death in a tragic skiing accident of Michel Trudeau, the son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and the brother of today’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.During their father’s time in office, Canadians had watched the three Trudeau boys grow up, so this young man’s death was a particular national tragedy.  Many say Pierre Trudeau, who died less than two years later, had never fully recovered from the loss of his son.I know all readers of Art’s History will join me in sending our thoughts out today to the Prime Minister and all members of the Trudeau family as the death of Michel Trudeau is marked.Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist.  He was research assistant on The Rt.
