As always on
Art’s History, we pause to mark the birthdays of all of our 23 Prime Ministers. And today, of course, is the Right Honourable Paul Martin’s turn. The future Prime Minister was born on this date in 1938 in his beloved hometown of Windsor, Ontario. Today he is turning a very youthful 84 and is still continuing his decades of public service.
I owe Mr. Martin a great deal as he has supported my research in the field of Canadian political history over many years. It is therefore a great personal and professional pleasure to send him birthday wishes on his big day.
As a proud son of Windsor, I know Mr. Martin will enjoy celebrating another notable Windsorite that made history on this date. The great David Croll was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent in 1955, becoming the first-ever Jewish Canadian Senator. He would serve with great distinction in the Red Chamber until his death in 1991.
