Three FLQ domestic terrorists who kidnapped and murdered Quebec cabinet minister Pierre Laporte during the October Crisis were captured on this date in 1970. The three, joined by another, were all charged, convicted and sentenced to federal prison terms.
They had kidnapped Laporte at gunpoint at his home on October 10, 1970 and his body was discovered in the back of a car seven days later.
On October 10, 2010, the 40th anniversary of Laporte’s kidnapping, Quebec Premier Jean Charest unveiled a Montreal monument to Laporte.
