Welcome to the New National Newswatch Experience

  • National Newswatch

National Newswatch has been with you since 2006, bringing trusted, impactful news and opinion that touches Canadian politics and the lives of Canadians. For Canada’s decision-makers, those of you around them, and our country’s most engaged citizens, we’re proud to be with you each day – and take that responsibility seriously.

Since 2006, the news world has also changed a lot. It was time for us to hit the refresh button and develop an improved curated experience to better deliver the most important information to you, our readers!

At its core, the revamped National Newswatch should look and feel familiar. The most significant news and opinion stories remain front and centre, now within a refined homepage experience designed to make it easier to quickly identify the most important items for you. In addition, we’ve added new features and topic feeds to make sure you don’t miss a beat.

Here's what’s new:

New Feeds

We’ve re-organized and added new feeds on the homepage: Podcasts, The Politicians Pen (content written by elected officials), and The Superstack (highlighting Canada’s most important Substacks).

Topic Filters

We’ve improved our navigation menu to add topic filters to customize your experience and quickly find news that matters to you.

A New Newsletter: The Buzz with Peter Mansbridge

We recently launched a newsletter: The Buzz, with Peter Mansbridge. If you haven’t already subscribed, don’t miss another issue! Delivered right to your inbox every Saturday morning, catch up on the hottest news items of the week, complete with commentary from renowned broadcaster and journalist, Peter Mansbridge.

New look, Familiar Feel, on Desktop and Mobile

We’ve designed a completely new look and feel to the site that maintains the best of the old site and combines it with refinements in typography, layout and consistency. Included in this new design is a refined new mobile experience. We know many of you use National Newswatch on the go, and so we created an experience suited just for you. Even with all that change, we worked really hard to make sure it still felt like National Newswatch, familiar and reliable.

Under the hood improvements

What’s under the hood is now completely new. These improvements will help us continue to deliver a quality service, while also laying the groundwork for future initiatives. While you may not even notice these changes they also help improve our site’s responsiveness, stability and compatibility across devices.

New Advertising & Sponsorship Opportunities

Serving audiences who care about public policy and have an impact on it is core to who we are. Our new platform, from website to newsletter, creates exciting new opportunities for organizations who need to reach decision-makers and those who care about what happens in Canadian politics. What’s life without a little colour?

We heard you. Some of you love the red, some of you don’t. So we decided to create an interface that allows you to customize the National Newswatch experience in your preferred stripe of colour. We even have a Dark Mode for those times when you want to read in lower light conditions to truly make your experience here your own. On desktop, look to the right of the site for the Theme Changer, and on mobile it’s in the mobile menu — just tap the three bars. National Newswatch will remember your choice for next time!

We look forward to having you experience the new National Newswatch. The old site will still be accessible for a little while longer, so you can get used to the changes. Once you’ve tried out the new site please take a moment to complete the survey and let us know what you think!
