Today in Canada’s Political History: December 8, 2008, Jean Charest scores a hat trick

  • National Newswatch

Jean Charest chalked up another entry in Quebec’s political record book on this date in 2008. First elected Premier in 2003, he and his team were re-elected – in a minority situation mind you –and then were victorious again on December 8, 2008. This made meant Charest was now the first Premier of the province since Maurice Duplessis to win back-to-back-to-back victories. Charest also brought his Quebec Liberals back to majority status with his victory.
