Today in Canada's Political History - December 25, 1971: Justin Trudeau’s birth has Lester Pearson thinking of Twiggy!

  • National Newswatch

The birth of Justin Trudeau on Christmas Day 1971 had a lot of people talking. One distinguished Canadian who noted the birth of the future Prime Minister was none other than past Prime Minister Lester Pearson. His son, Geoffrey, was also a Christmas baby after all.

In a Christmas letter to Geoffrey, Pearson said one of his first thoughts upon hearing of the new baby over at 24 Sussex was about Twiggy, the British supermodel of the day, and her manager, Justin de Villeneuve.

“(There is) another Xmas baby to join Geoffrey Pearson,” the past PM wrote, “called no doubt, after that ‘Justin’ who is Twiggy’s boyfriend!”

As Justin would himself go on to become a pop culture sensation in his own right, Pearson was on to something with his comments about Twiggy and Justin!

Happy Christmas all from Art’s History. And, happy birthday Prime Minister from Kingston.
