The Bloc Quebecois has won the Montreal Liberal stronghold riding of LaSalle--Emard--Verdun after an extremely tight three-way race with the NDP.

Supporters in Montreal shouted and jumped up and down so hard the floor shook at news of their victory, some with Quebec flags draped around their shoulders.

The resounding celebrations are another blow to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who faced calls to resign after losing another longtime Liberal seat in Toronto to the Conservatives in June.

The Bloc was locked in an tight three-way race with the Liberals and the NDP right up until the final poll was reported.

Elections Canada reported all 187 polls early Tuesday, showing the Bloc won the seat just 248 votes ahead of the Liberals.

Meanwhile in Winnipeg the NDP retained their stronghold in Elmwood--Transcona after a tough campaign against the Conservatives.
