Today in Canada's Political History - January 13, 1963: Birthday of former Senator Linda Frum

  • National Newswatch

One of the most important journalists and parliamentarians of her generation celebrates her birthday today. Linda Frum, who served with distinction in the Senate from 2009 to 2021, is turning 62. Before entering politics, she was a successful columnist and also authored Barbara Frum: A Daughter's Memoir. Frum later earned a Gemini award for Best Social-Political Documentary Program for the film Ms. Conceptions.

She was named to the Senate on the advice of Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2009, serving with distinction in the Red Chamber for 12 years. “She is, and I know will always remain, unwavering in her defence of freedom, human rights and democratic principles at home and abroad,” Harper said upon her retirement.

A passionate supporter of Israel and numerous Jewish causes, the former Senator today continues to battle the scourge of anti-Semitism.

For me, she has been a great supporter of my work in the field of political history and I owe her a great deal. Happy birthday Linda Frum from Art’s History!
