  • National Newswatch

It was a big day for past Prime Minister Louis St.-Laurent, his family, friends and supporters on this date in 1959. The 12th Prime Minister’s official portrait was unveiled at a non-partisan ceremony held on Parliament Hill. Friends and supporters and even St.-Laurent’s former Tory opponent, George Drew, had made personal donations that made the painting possible. It was painted by artist Audrey Watt McNaughton.
