Canadians from across the political spectrum gathered as one in Montreal on this date in 2024 for the State Funeral for former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. He had passed into history a few weeks before, on February 29. Past Prime Ministers Kim Campbell, Jean Chrétien, Joe Clark and Stephen Harper were joined by PM Justin Trudeau, Governor General Mary Simon, past British Prime Minister Sir John Major and past Quebec Premier Jean Charest, and other dignitaries, in paying tribute to Mulroney.




Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist. He was research assistant on The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy. A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
