Today in Canada's Political History - March 27, 2014: Final public hearings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission held

Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission started its final public hearings on this date in 2014 in Edmonton. The 7th such gathering since the TRC was struck, the event was held over two-days and brought together past residential school residents to share their stories before TRC chair Murray Sinclair and his fellow Royal Commissioners. The final report of the TRC would be released in June of 2015.




Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist. He was research assistant on The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy. A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
