Recently retired from politics, former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien was honoured by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario on this date in 2004. In receiving an Honorary Degree, Canada’s 20th Prime Minister left his graduating student audience with some important advice. “Honour your country,” he said. “Believe in yourself. Believe in your ability to contribute to building an ever-stronger Canada. Be prepared to fight for it. Always love it." Wise words.
