The Pierre Trudeau-era in Canadian politics came to an end on this date in 1984 with the 15th Prime Minister delivering his farewell address at the Liberal leadership convention in Ottawa. All told, he had served 16-years in Canada’s top political job and delivered three majority and one minority victories for his party. He lost only once, to the Progressive Conservatives under Joe Clark in 1979.
