WINNIPEG -- RCMP say an officer was responding to a mass stabbing on the Hollow River First Nation in Manitoba, when her cruiser crashed with a stolen vehicle driven by the suspect in the attack.

Supt. Rob Lasson says the male suspect died at the scene of the crash and the officer was taken to hospital with critical injuries but is expected to recover.

An 18-year-old girl was killed in the stabbings and several others were injured.
