CALGARY -- Jeromy Farkas has been confirmed as Calgary's next mayor.

Farkas narrowly defeated Sonya Sharp in last week's civic election but because of the closeness of the results a recount was ordered.

As a result, he increased his margin of victory from 581 votes to 616.

Farkas and Calgary's new city council members will be sworn in tomorrow.

He was a former city councillor who finished second to outgoing mayor Jyoti Gondek in 2021.

Gondek finished third on Oct. 20.
