Today in Canada's Political History: November 5, 1984, Happy birthday Premier P.J. Akeeagok!

Nunavut’s Premier is marking his birthday today. Born in 1984 in Grise Fiord, Premier P.J. Akeeagok entered territorial politics in 2021 with his election to Nunavut’s Legislative Assembly. In 2021 his fellow MLA’s elected him Premier under the territory’s consensus system of government and he has held his territory’s highest political office ever since. Happy birthday Premier Akeeagok.

 


Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist. He was research assistant on The Rt. Hon. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy. A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
