  • National Newswatch

Wab Kinew, who made history in 2023 when he was sworn-in as Manitoba’s Premier, becoming the nation’s first-ever First Nation Premier, is celebrating his birthday today. He is turning 43.

Born in Kenora, Ontario, a member of the Onigaming First Nation, he was raised in Winnipeg. The future premier went on to enjoy a successful career in broadcast journalism, the rap music industry, and then as a university administrator before turning his attentions towards politics. Kinew was first elected to the Manitoba Legislature in 2016. A year later he was elected NDP leader and his history-making rise to the Premier’s Office truly began. Happy birthday from Art’s History Mr. Premier!
