U.S. President Trump, with not a mention of Greenland or his desire to make Canada the 51st American state, had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on this date in 2017. This took place, of course, during his first term and came after Trudeau had visited the White House for a relatively successful set talks with Trump, the latter then in the early days of his first term. You will find the Canadian readout of the call, released by the PMO at the time, below.
“The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, spoke today with the President of the United States Donald J. Trump. The Prime Minister thanked the President for a positive and constructive day of working meetings in Washington on February 13, 2017. The leaders discussed a range of bilateral relations issues, including border cooperation, moving forward on the softwood lumber file and the upcoming G7 and G20 summits. They also looked forward to working together on the Canada-United States Council for Advancement of Women Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders that was launched during the visit.”
