Today in Canada's Political History: March 8, 1939, Death of Sir Henry Pallett

  • National Newswatch

The military and titan of business who built Toronto’s famed Casa Loma, passed into history on this date in 1928 at 80. Sir Henry Pallett, who was born in Kingston, made his millions by way of shrewd investments in electric power generation and in mining. Pallett was also a respected military leader who rose to the rank of Major-General.

Hundreds of thousands continue to visit Casa Loma today, as they have for generations. I have great memories of traveling from my hometown of Scarborough on a school trip with my fellow students from William Tredway Public School to tour the lavish mansion in my youth.
