EDMONTON -- Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is seeking security clearance to receive briefings on foreign interference in her province, but the leader of the Opposition says she shouldn't be trusted with it.
NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi says the premier's relationship with the Saudi government and her lack of concern about the ongoing separation campaign should disqualify her.
Smith this week confirmed that she and members of her staff accepted accommodations and travelled on a private plane provided by the Saudi government during a visit last fall.
The premier says she has started the process to receive briefings from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
She told the legislature this week that she wants to be informed about any acts of foreign interference in her province.
Nenshi says the premier is inviting foreign interference by accepting gifts from a foreign government.
