OTTAWA -- The Canadian Press is projecting that Liberal candidate Danielle Martin has won the byelection in University-Rosedale, securing a razor-thin majority government for Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Martin won the seat vacated by former cabinet minister Chrystia Freeland.

Votes are still being counted in Scarborough Southwest and Terrebonne, Que.

The Liberals still must wait to see if they have enough seats to fully control the House of Commons.

Scarborough Southwest was left vacant after former cabinet minister Bill Blair left his post to become Canada's high commissioner in the U.K.

Terrebonne features a rematch of the closest result in last year's election, with Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste facing off against Bloc Quebecois candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagne.

More coming.
