One of the greatest parliamentary performers in 20th century Canadian politics took to his feet to deliver his maiden address in the Commons on the date in 1936. Liberal Paul Martin would on to serve until 1968 as MP and then brought his skills to the Senate. His biographer, historian Greg Donaghy, later described his subject’s legacy on Parliament Hill in an article he penned for the Canadian Parliamentary Review. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy. A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
