Hamilton city councillors have rejected a temporary pause on new data centres.

The 10-6 vote against the proposed one-year pause comes as local lawmakers across Canada wrestle with the noise, energy and water concerns around a new wave of data centres powering the boom in artificial intelligence.

If the data centre moratorium had been approved, it would have been the first such move by a Canadian city.
