MONTREAL -- Federal Justice Minister Sean Fraser has ordered a new trial for a Quebec man convicted of four murders in the 1990s.

Fraser says he found reasonable grounds to believe there may have been a miscarriage of justice in the case of Daniel Jolivet.

Jolivet was convicted in 1994 of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder.

Police believed the four victims were shot in a drug-related settling of scores.

Jolivet has long maintained that he is innocent and was released on bail in December 2025 after 33 years in prison.

He is expected to speak to journalists later today outside Montreal's courthouse.
