NORTH VANCOUVER -- Longtime Liberal political staffer Braeden Caley is expected to win the federal byelection in the British Columbia riding of North-Vancouver Capilano.
With more than two-thirds of the polls reporting Caley is ahead of Conservative candidate and lawyer Stephen Curran and Green Party representative Shelley Luce, a scientist and advocate.
The Liberals say on social media that Caley, who hails from B.C., has done big things for British Columbians and all Canadians.
The riding has been considered a safe Liberal seat, where former cabinet minister Jonathan Wilkinson won for a fourth time in 2025.
Wilkinson resigned in June to become Canada's ambassador to the European Union, and Caley stepped away from his role as deputy chief of staff to Prime Minister Mark Carney to campaign for the seat.
Byelections also took place Monday in the Toronto riding of Beaches-East York and the Quebec riding of Chicoutimi--Le Fjord -- both of which were clinched by the Liberals.
