Minister says he's working with G7 to set up AI safety organization

OTTAWA -- Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon says he has talked to his international counterparts about setting up an organization to tackle AI safety.

Solomon says he spoke with counterparts at the G7 today about establishing an international "technology stability board."

He says the board would evaluate AI models for testing before they are released.

Solomon says the safety of AI is a key government priority and he also spoke with other G20 countries about the issue on Friday.

Warnings about the risks AI poses to humans have prompted global alarm in recent weeks.

Prime Minister Mark Carney said last week a global "technology stability" body along the lines of the Financial Stability Board would make sense.
