CAMPOBELLO ISLAND -- A New Brunswick MP says a truck carrying supplies to the isolated community of Campobello Island was held at the U.S. border Tuesday.
The truck was carrying Canadian milk and alcohol on the same day a U.S. ban on imports of both products came into effect as part of the ongoing trade war.
The island can only be reached by land via a bridge from Lubec, Maine.
John Williamson, the MP for New Brunswick Southwest, posted a message on social media saying he is working with federal officials and the United States Embassy to resolve the issue.
Williamson says the truck, which was also carrying mail, runs every weekday and is always sealed with a customs tag.
The only other route from the rest of Canada is via a private seasonal ferry running from nearby Deer Island, N.B., which is scheduled to end service for the year on Oct. 12.
