OTTAWA -- One of China's most important officials will visit Vancouver next week as both countries look to deepen trade ties.
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, who plays a major role in crafting Beijing's trade and economic polices, will visit Vancouver on Sunday and Monday.
Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne and Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu will welcome He and they say events are also planned with Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem and financial regulators.
The announcement comes as Sidhu wraps up a visit to China as part of ongoing talks on trade that both sides agreed to after Prime Minister Mark Carney's last visit to China.
The two countries also announced today they would extend a deal that provides Chinese market access to Canadian canola and seafood, in exchange for Canadian access for Chinese steel and aluminum.
Carney is set to visit China again this month for the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit in the city of Shenzhen.
